FAQS

  • Hair Design Apprenticeship provides an alternate route for people to receive licensure in the Beauty Industry. In this program, hair and its safety practices are the sole concern, whereas receiving a license through Cosmetology School requires students to learn other skills within the Industry.

Apprentices are employees who learn and navigate beauty trade, while earning wages. Our Apprentices are also required to follow a job-related curriculum to ensure they meet the minimum standards to attain their professional license

  • Not yet! Our Hair Design Apprentices are working towards their 1200 hours of in-person and online education to receive their Washington State Hair Design License.

After completing State requirements, Apprentices can take their State Board Exam to receive their official License upon passing.

  • 100%! Through the Apprenticeship Program, it is legal for our Apprentices to perform services on clients. Our Apprentices will start by observing and assisting experienced stylists, and gradually work into practicing various techniques on real clients. Our unique education experience provides our apprentices opportunities to work alongside seasoned stylists, while offering our clients affordable services.

  • A large part of the apprenticeship program involves assisting all stylists during regular salon hours. During an appointment, you may be serviced by your stylist and their apprentice that day.

Once an Apprentice has reached a certain point in their curriculum, as well as have passed tests proctored by our educators, Apprentices are able to accept clients of their own with an Educator present in the salon.

Other duties also include coordinating appointments and salon upkeep.

  • Along with completing an online curriculm, each apprentice receives mentorship, continuing education, and 1-1 support from our Atarashii Approved Journeymen/Hair Educators. Apprentices also take additional education classes from hair educators/specialists both virtually and in-person.

  • Absolutely! Each apprentice is employed, paid an hourly wage, and graciously accepts gratuity.

We are so happy to be able to help our Apprentices as they grow into experienced, confident stylists. Join us on their journey!
